Level One: Dynamic Psycho-Educational Training

This core skills training is a prerequisite for any advanced training.

This is now available as an online video-based training for the first three hours (Basic Skills) of a five-hour training. The second section is available online (Resiliency Practice Skills Series), in-person, or through Zoom Pro. CEU credits are still available.

Cost:  $ 1,250.00 for a half-day training,  $2,500.00 for a full-day training

We raise awareness through training that teaches workers to track secondary trauma in themselves and others. These are half-day and full-day training sessions which focus on both cognitive and experiential learning. This can be provided for an entire staff or workforce. We have worked with groups from 6 up to 75 people.

Advanced Training

Level Two Option A: Group Process and Leadership Skills Training

Spreading the wildfire of resiliency can occur through organizational leadership that supports the development of a secure group process within a work team that encourages the expression of vulnerability and the practicing of resiliency skills. This leadership also requires a basic understanding of STAR-T principles and the ability to dynamically teach these skills in effective ways. Creating safety for these processes involves training individuals within organizations and community who are secondary trauma education and prevention specialists. These individuals hold the space for their work teams by guiding effective group process to address secondary trauma and the resiliency skills necessary to experience post-traumatic growth. They also function as prevention educators who can guide teams through a training process to teach about secondary trauma and the toolbox of resiliency.

It is a prerequisite for this training to have attended a STAR-T Facet One training in-person or online.

Level Two Option B: Responding to Acute Distress Debriefing Facilitator Training

The increase in acute distress that human service workers are exposed to demands that we have a group of debriefing facilitators ready to respond effectively and in a timely way.

This training seeks to create effective debriefing teams within agencies and communities to support the humans who do effective human service work. The current models of CISD (Critical Incident Stress Debriefing) are not informed by the most current neurobiological information about trauma and the way that it impacts workers at both the physiological, emotional, relational levels. Often, these are presented as single incident experiences that are disconnected from prevention, education, and follow up efforts.

This two-day training embeds the debriefing process in the same core principles that are taught to workers in our STAR-T Facet One resiliency training. This allows for an integration of experience and builds on prevention skills which allow the debriefing work to be done more effectively.

It is a prerequisite for this training to have attended a STAR-T Facet One training in-person or online.

Level Two Option C: STAR-T Leadership Training

As the STAR-T model has continued to grow, developing strategic ways for agencies and communities to spread the “wildfire of resiliency” that are consistent with the uniqueness of each setting and coherent with the principles of the STAR-T model is a central goal for 2020. In collaboration with the leadership team of the Missoula County Attorney’s office, we have developed a 9-hour training process that will empower mid-level managers to be conduits for recognizing the impact of secondary trauma and encouraging post-traumatic growth in the workers they manage.

We access the supervision relationships that each manager is responsible for to integrate secondary trauma awareness skills as a part of the preventative work plan for each worker. The manager learns and practices this protocol in a closed management learning group in which we create a process-rich environment for leaders to understand the impact of secondary trauma on themselves. We teach and integrate the key components of the STAR-T model in this secure environment.

DEEPER DIVE (Level 3)

This two-day training is for alumni of our level-one trainings who want to explore more deeply how attachment, neurobiology, trauma theory, and embodiment theory can integrate to increase the growth of resiliency in the middle of trauma engaged human service work.  If you want to attend this training and have not yet completed a level one training, we can assist you in completing a level one training in our online format.

Event dates can be found on the Deeper Dive page.
